Hawaii to Tahiti

Our trip from Hawaii to Tahiti ended up to be a 5 day "At Sea" trip. Originally, it was supposed to be 2 days at sea, then a stop at Christmas Island, and 2 more sea days. Just after we set sail from Hawaii, we were informed that the tide levels would be too low to let us get into the port. of Christmas Island. This was one of the reasons we were excited to do this itinerary! In doing research of previous sailings, it turned out that it was more than likely that the ship was NOT able to get in due to low tide levels. (Probably the reason they discontinued this particular itinerary.

On the day we were "supposed" to stop at Christmas Island...they slowed the ship down and a naturalist explained the habitat and layout of the island. At the time, there was no tourism per say, just native settlements. Looking at the internet now...there is either 2 Christmas Islands, or there has been some development since we went in 2008...I will look into this some more!

The 5 days were more sea days than we had initially wanted,  but there was a lot to do and a lot of fun activities planned by the staff aboard the Tahitian  Princess. One of the events was the "King Neptune" ceremony which was conducted as we crossed the equator.
